Prospect HQ last week was celebrating the good news that our tender had been successful to deliver leadership development to around 200 Cancer Leaders – including consultant, nursing staff and co-ordinators. It was our commitment to innovative ideas and great value for money which impressed them and secured the contract, alongside our track record with the Northern Cancer Alliance and personal commitments to Cancer Services.
Last week, Donna Bradshaw, Richard Woods and Karen Forrest went to meet the Cancer Alliance for the first time to explore ideas and approaches. The course will be co-designed following a brief period of consultation with potential delegates, and may include system thinking, patient voice, effective MDTs and personal skills such as influencing and leading change. The course will be piloted in sometime in May or June and will run over the summer.
The intended outcome of the development is to enhance the effectiveness of Cancer Multi-Disciplinary Teams. These teams were established to ensure that patient’s care plans had the benefit of input from a range of professionals – including consultants, pathologists, radiologists and nursing staff. Recent research by Martin Gore suggests some changes to how MDTs work, and we will also be reflecting upon this.
